In the years since legalization, let’s revisit a few examples of the fight against marijuana in Colorado mountain towns: Vail Resorts blew up historic smoke shacks, Pitkin County issued an ordinance prohibiting marijuana (and liquor) from the 2016 X Games and Backcountry Cannabis Company (formerly Breckenridge Cannabis Club) got kicked off of Main Street. It’s still a sad reality that getting caught smoking slopeside might cost you your pass, and getting a citation for public consumption isn’t cheap.

For a hard-partying culture that serves alcohol at almost every single on-mountain establishment and happily celebrates the tradition of après ski, isn’t it about time responsible cannabis use got treated as an equal part of the scene? As you would when having a beer with your chili at lunch, know your tolerance and smoke smart.
