If you caught the premiere of the 42nd season of “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend, yes, you saw what you think you saw. Headlining actress Margot Robbie was in fact wearing a leather-and-lace pot leaf dress during her monologue. And yes, the Australian stunner made cannabis look fine AF in doing so.
High fashion followers might recall seeing the dress on the runway as part of Alexander Wang’s Fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection during New York Fashion Week in February — a tipping point in the ever-growing trend of cannabis culture meeting couture.
Celebrity cannabis
Molly Ringwald: Pot shouldn’t be illegal, and it won’t be for much longer
Bill Maher: Yes, he really smoked weed on ‘Real Time’; No, he wasn’t fined $1.7 million
Neil deGrasse Tyson: So meta — see the astrophysicist watch himself in ‘stoned’ slo-mo viral video
Neil Young: He shares his secret cure to combat weed-induced paranoia
Susan Sarandon: “(Marijuana) will be legal everywhere”
Morgan Freeman (on his cannabis use): ‘I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it!’

Robbie, a first-time “SNL” host, is best known for her roles in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Whiskey Tango Fox Trot” and “Suicide Squad.” She hasn’t yet publicly proclaimed her affinity for greenery in interviews or social media like other smoking starlets, but donning a piece with such a design makes a better statement. Robbie gave a nod to cannabis without any direct discussion, which is a prime example of the progress our culture is making toward normalization.
Viewers immediately took to Twitter loving Robbie’s look and wondering where they could find the dress:

“RUNWAY LOOK #45” is available in-store only through Wang’s flagship locations in New York City and London. A leafless version of the dress is available on Nordstrom.com for $1,995.
As I shared with Canada’s Fashion Magazine in August:
Fashion, as always, will pick up on what’s happening in our culture and incorporate it in its own way. But what’s exciting is that the change is happening and cannabis can be chic.
