4:20 Digest: Pot-friendly dating, Panic en La Playa and more (3-13-14)

It’s 4:20 p.m. on March 13, 2014, and here are a few of the things we’re talking about at Cannabist HQ.

SPEED DATING FOR THE 420 SET: Colorado now has 420-friendly burlesque shows, sushi-pairing menus, painting classes and fine dining parties. Of course a 420-friendly speed dating event was in the works. “It’s a nice icebreaker,” said an organizer, “and it’s nice going into a group knowing that that question (‘Do you partake?’) is off the table.” Check it out.

MARIJUANA CONVICTIONS OVERTURNED? “Colorado’s second-highest court says some people convicted of possessing small amounts of marijuana can ask for those convictions to be thrown out under the law that legalized recreational marijuana in the state.” Read more about the big ruling.

WIDESPREAD PANIC, ON THE BEACH: “Just as the SXSW Music festival wraps up, the real rock party is heading even farther south for four nights of Widespread Panic on the beach in the Dominican Republic.” Not heading to the beach yourself? It’s OK — follow our correspondent’s trip right here.

HOW SHATTER IS MADE: File this quote under COMPARING POT PRICES TO GOLD. “At this point gold costs $43.50 a gram,” said Tucker Eldridge, master grower at Nature’s Herbs & Wellness, “and shatter costs $40 a gram off the shelf for medical patients. You add another 30% tax to that, and it ends up costing more than gold.” See a video of Eldridge making shatter here.
