Lyons marijuana vote canceled, but moratorium possible

Lyons cancels vote on recreational pot ban, but moratorium possible

After operating for months under the assumption that a March 24 special election in Lyons would include a measure seeking to ban recreational pot businesses, the town board voted Tuesday night to remove the ballot item altogether, citing insurmountable legal hurdles.

"If I had a magic wand that I could have waved and reversed the decision of the voters ... the day after the election, I would have waved my wand," Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said recently. "Now, I'm not so sure." (Cyrus McCrimmon, The Denver Post )

Colo. Gov. Hickenlooper would have reversed pot legalization if he could

Gov. John Hickenlooper emerged as Colorado’s reluctant supervisor in the first year of legal recreational marijuana sales, tasked with administering a law he didn’t support as the state set a model for the nation. If he could have reversed the state’s legal recreational pot legalization laws, he would have, he said. But now he’s reconsidering.

Amsterdam Cannabis Cup opens doors for Day 2, but crowd dwindles

Cannabis Cup: 7 surprising differences between Amsterdam and Denver

The irony of coming from Colorado to be a judge of coffee shop cannabis at an unexpectedly transformed Amsterdam Cannabis Cup wasn’t lost on me, or most people I talked to over the five-day trip. Why travel 5,000 miles to smoke marijuana when it’s legal right down the street?

Vaping indoors

Why vaping is the dumbest thing ever

Why is vaping the dumbest thing ever? I’ll admit, I think “vape” is a dumb-sounding word and generally looks about as cool as wearing a Bluetooth headset. I’m also partial to the idea that it’s a “half-high,” a poseur way of consuming cannabis and/or nicotine.

Nevada reciprocity: Have an MMJ card? You can buy pot in Vegas in 2015

Marijuana activists are already planning the 2016 campaign to regulate and legalize the sale of recreational pot in Nevada, home to Las Vegas, one of the world’s biggest tourism destinations. Seth Rogen threatens to ‘smoke weed in the White House,’ Snoop responds

So apparently getting high in the White House (or at least saying that you did) is the new gold standard for celebrities who love weed. Remember when Willie Nelson smoked up on the White House’s roof? He does — kind of. Snoop Dogg maintains that he got stoned inside the White House — “in the bathroom,” he said. And now stoner-actor Seth Rogen says he’s going to get high in the White House.

That’s when I decided to make the perfect little pipe.”

How Uruguay’s pot plan should work, but also how it might change

Montevideo, Uruguay — There’s a revolution happening in the streets of this sleepy South American capital — one full of controversial landmines, landmark precedents and intense international heat. It’s the kind of uprising you can smell, and it’s a familiar scent in Colorado.
