This tiny Middle Eastern nation leads the world in medical marijuana research: Few people outside of the legal cannabis industry would associate Israel with marijuana. But the tiny nation, slightly larger in square miles than New Jersey, is a surprising world leader when it comes to pioneering medical cannabis research and development. It started in the 1960s: Israeli scientist Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, using confiscated Lebanese hashish he obtained from the police, was one of the first researchers to identify cannabidiol (CBD), one of the plant’s key compounds. And soon after he determined the structure of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the chemical compound that gives cannabis its intoxicating high. –Report by The Cannabist’s Bruce Kennedy

Trending: All state recreational marijuana measures polling in favor of legalization: Just weeks before Election Day, recreational marijuana initiatives appear to be trending favorably in the latest polls. “Marijuana legalization is leading in every state it’s on the ballot this November,” Christopher Ingraham, Washington Post marijuana policy reporter tweeted Tuesday. The latest approval percentages he referenced — Arizona at 50 percent, California at 60 percent, Maine and Massachusetts at 53 percent, and Nevada at 57 percent — aligned with poll data in a rundown published Tuesday by the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, a pro-marijuana lobbying organization. –Report by The Cannabist’s Alicia Wallace

Margot Robbie wins the ‘SNL’ premiere with smokin’ designer pot leaf dress: f you caught the premiere of the 42nd season of “Saturday Night Live,” yes, you saw what you think you saw. Headlining actress Margot Robbie was in fact wearing a leather-and-lace pot leaf dress during her monologue. And yes, the Australian stunner made cannabis look fine AF in doing so. High fashion followers might recall seeing the dress on the runway as part of Alexander Wang’s Fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection during New York Fashion Week in February — a tipping point in the ever-growing trend of cannabis culture meeting couture. –Report by The Cannabist’s Katie Shapiro
