Strain gains: Colorado-based online firm PotGuide acquires KindReviews

BOULDER — Online marijuana directory PotGuide.com, based in Denver, on Tuesday announced the acquisition of KindReviews from Longmont’s Shift Cannabis Co., a boutique consulting firm focusing on pot cultivation and retailing.

KindReviews is an online resource for marijuana users that features high-quality photography, profiles of various cannabis strains and reviews of local dispensaries. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in a release sent out Tuesday.

“We are thrilled to expand our content into the growing world of strain profiles and reviews,” PotGuide.com founder Jeremy Bamford said in a prepared statement. “Passionate cannabis aficionados, as well as more casual users, embrace KindReviews for its comprehensive, savvy analysis of strains and unbeatable photography.

“We long have admired KindReviews editorial excellence and are eager to continue the site’s legacy of comprehensive strain information.”

Shift has owned KindReviews since 2010, according to Travis Howard, co-founder of KindReviews and CEO of Shift.

He said expansions at Shift did not allow staff to focus on KindReviews’ growth as much as they would have liked, leading them to seek a buyer for the company.

“We looked for a quality home (for KindReviews) for nearly a year, we’re confident we’ve found the company, the team and the leader to complete what KindReviews started almost six years ago,” Howard said via email Tuesday. “The spirit of KindReviews was always information to the people and we felt the team at PotGuide mostly closely resembled that ethos and passion.”
