Caregivers for Life recalls 2,299 pot oil syringes over pesticide concerns

Denver marijuana business Caregivers for Life is voluntarily recalling 2,299 individual one-gram syringes of cannabis oil that contain potentially unsafe pesticides, according to Denver’s Department of Environmental Health.

The recall is Denver’s 19th pesticide-based recall of marijuana products in as many weeks. Caregivers for Life’s recalled syringes, filled with cannabis oil meant for oral ingestion, tested positive for two pesticides banned for use on cannabis in Colorado, myclobutanil and imidacloprid.

Caregivers for Life said in a statement posted to its social media Friday that its suppliers dropped the ball.

“Caregivers for Life relied on many providers who were all contractually obligated to follow the laws and regulations related to pesticides and to deliver the highest quality cannabis possible. Unfortunately, some of these suppliers let us down and provided us trim that were not up to current standards.”

The company said it will soon alter its standard operating procedures to include voluntary pesticide testing of all incoming trim and concentrates as well as its finished products.

“We view this development as an example of the success of regulation, as a sign of improvement for our industry, our businesses, and especially for the health and well-being of the patients and consumers we’re fortunate enough to serve,” the statement said.

Specific concentrate and production batch numbers for the affected products are listed in the city’s press release. The Cannabist has been maintaining a full list of the city’s previous marijuana recalls here.

The city is encouraging customers with any of the recalled products to dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase.
