Denver police investigate shooting at home with marijuana grow

Denver police are investigating a shooting early Wednesday at a home in the southwest part of the city where marijuana is being grown.

Officers learned of the shooting after being called about 4:15 a.m. to reports of a burglary at the home on the 700 block of South Wolff Street.

As officers headed to the scene, a man with a gunshot wound arrived at an area hospital.

Det. Mary McIver, a police spokeswoman, said investigators believe that man was wounded in the shooting.

Officers at the scene told 7News that a homeowner shot an alleged burglar. The television station also reports the home had previously been robbed.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting, McIver said, including the marijuana grow.

“They are trying to determine whether it is a legal grow operation or not,” McIver said. “Any time you have a grow operation, of course that’s a concern of whether its related (to a crime).”

No one has been arrested in the case, police say. Investigators are interviewing several witnesses.
