Stoner hero and prolific stand-up Doug Benson is no stranger to Denver, usually visiting the Mile High City once or twice a year for a “Doug Loves Movies” podcast recording at Comedy Works and a “Benson Interruption” show at the Alamo Drafthouse in Littleton. (In fact, Cannabist editor Ricardo Baca was a guest on the most recent Comedy Works recording).
But for the first time, Benson is releasing an album recorded in the legal-weed confines of Colorado on (appropriately) April 20, 2015. The name of the album, “Promotional Tool,” is a self-deprecating reference to Benson’s track-by-track plugs for his projects. It’s also the comic’s eighth album in as many years — although you won’t see me comparing him to the also-prolific Louis C.K., given the loose, goofy nature of Benson’s material.
The album is available now for $4.99 on iTunes and as a CD from L.A.-based A Special Thing Records.
