Mom charged with giving pot brownie to son who jumped from window

The mother of a 19-year-old who was seriously injured last week leaping from a third-story window after eating an edible marijuana brownie was arrested Thursday.

Fort Collins police said Julieane Jablonski, 38, was charged with tampering with a witness and providing marijuana to an underage person in connection with the incident, which occurred on April 14.

Officials said the tampering charge, a Class 4 felony that led to Jablonski being booked into the Larimer County Jail, was prompted by Jablonski’s actions after the incident. Officials would not describe those actions.

Providing marijuana to an underage person is normally handled through a citation and is a Class 1 drug misdemeanor.

According to officials, officers were called to an apartment at 1050 Hobbit Street last Tuesday on reports a teenager, later identified as Austin Essig, had just jumped from the building.

An investigation revealed that Essig had consumed one dose of an edible marijuana brownie. He had not consumed any other substance prior to or after consuming the brownie.

Officials said the investigation further revealed that Jablonski gave the brownie to Essig.

The remainder of the marijuana edible is being tested to determine THC levels and to confirm whether those levels correspond with the label. Those tests are pending.
