Boulder men chased down by deputies after Fort Collins pot burglary

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office chased and caught two men suspected of stealing marijuana plants from Choice Organics in Fort Collins on Tuesday.

At about 2:33 a.m. authorities received a report of a burglary in progress at the store located at 813 Smithfield Drive. A witness reported seeing a pickup truck ram the door of the business and two masked male suspects enter. The suspects allegedly took marijuana plants, then sped away in the pickup. The witness followed them and relayed their location to dispatchers.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle heading south on Interstate 25, but the suspects wouldn’t stop and were pursued into Loveland, onto westbound U.S. 34 and Cascade Avenue. The truck crashed into a culvert at West 22nd Street, and the suspects fled on foot into a field.

After commands were announced regarding the use of police dogs, both suspects surrendered and were taken into custody, police said. They were identified as Cody Aaron Jones, 19, and Bret Allen Royster, 18, both of Boulder.
