Manitou Springs to get second — and last — recreational marijuana shop

COLORADO SPRINGS — The tight-knit Manitou Springs community coupled with the streams of tourists that pass through for the Incline, Pikes Peak and small mountain-town relaxation make the city a prime spot for a new recreational marijuana shop, a spokeswoman for an emerging business says.

A first for recreational pot: Something unprecedented happened last fall in Manitou Springs

Owners of Emerald Fields, a Glendale recreational marijuana shop, plan to open a second location in Manitou Springs this month. It would be the second — and last — recreational marijuana shop in Manitou, a city of just more than 5,000 residents.

The Manitou Springs city council legalized retail sales in January 2014, and the first shop opened in July. The amendment to the city code allows two marijuana stores to be operated in the town’s commercial district.
