AURORA — Recreational marijuana sales got off to a high-tech start on Monday as patrons lauded the convenience of local access to legal marijuana and the innovations offered at Aurora’s first cannabis shop.
“It’s down the street,” said Lassana Toure, before purchasing a marijuana cigarette dipped in hash oil. “This is just the first of many.”
The doors of Euflora, on the 6000 block of South Gun Club Road, were opened about 10 a.m. to roughly a dozen waiting reporters and one eager man who wanted to beat the masses. Employees in the shop likened the new shop to an “Apple store,” touting the operation’s use of tablet computers in sales and a bar-code ordering system as industry innovations.
“We are trying to cater to the mom and dad types here who just want to get in and get out,” said Brittany Sansburn, a store manager.
Sansburn said the store’s Aurora location is aimed more at the regular customer as opposed to their downtown Denver shop, which is often filled with tourists.
The first customer, who was handed a gift bag full of “marijuana accessories” when he walked in the door and who declined to give his name, sniffed different strains before making a purchase.
“I’m gonna go smoke it,” he proudly said before leaving.
Bud in the ’burbs: Recreational shops scarce outside Denver
The city, which began allowing recreational sales on Oct. 1, has issued 21 licenses for recreational marijuana shops since the end of August. Aurora, which does not allow the sale of medical marijuana, approved recreational sales in May.
Another shop, Terrapin Care Station, said Monday it plans to host a soft opening in Aurora on Wednesday. Euflora’s opening celebrations will continue through the rest of the week.
“I’ve been waiting for this,” said Ray Saccomano, a customer. “It’s just down the street from my daughter’s day care.”
