Littleton City Council bans recreational pot sales

Littleton became the latest suburban community to prohibit the sale of recreational marijuana, passing on Tuesday a ban on an industry legalized by Colorado voters in November 2012.

The city council’s vote against recreational pot sales was 4-3. The ordinance also prohibits marijuana grow houses, product manufacturing facilities and testing operations in the city.

The ban replaces the moratorium Littleton had on recreational marijuana businesses, which would have lasted through September.

Tuesday’s decision does not affect the city’s four medical marijuana dispensaries.

In June, Golden’s city council also voted to ban recreational pot sales and all related businesses.
