Colombian tied to pot raids indicted

DENVER—A Colombian man arrested after raids on medical marijuana operations in Colorado has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of possessing a firearm after entering the country on a non-immigrant visa.

Hector Diaz had earlier been charged with the same crimes by prosecutors, who followed up with a grand jury indictment to expedite court proceedings.

Colorado Justice Department spokesman Jeffrey Dorschner said Wednesday Diaz is due back in court on Thursday to be advised of the indictment.

On Nov. 21, federal and local authorities executed 16 federal search warrants on marijuana operations. Authorities say investigators found 5 assault rifles, one shotgun and 5 handguns, as well as a large cache of ammunition at a residence occupied by Diaz. Diaz is charged with possessing one of those weapons.
