Marijuana security expert: This industry has so many unique concerns

As with anything of value — be it diamonds or marijuana — security is a necessity, says Derek Porter, chief executive officer of Denver-based Security Grade Protective Services.

Providing security for businesses in the cannabis industry, however, takes some different approaches than for other sectors, he says.

“This is a product that has a significant black market to it where it could be sold very easily if taken,” Porter says.

Porter joins The Cannabist Show and editor-in-chief Ricardo Baca to discuss some of the more unique aspects of running a security business that caters to the cannabis industry.
