One of the best weed-themed entries in The Denver Post's annual Peeps diorama contest is "Peep Scout Entrepreneurs," by Clare Lumley of Littleton. Winners will be announced April 16 in The Post's Food section. (Clare Lumley)

Marshmallow Peeps: Weed-themed diorama a favorite in Post contest

It often inspires a gasp — the first time you recognize that Easter falls on stoner holiday 4/20 this year. And while the odd collision doesn’t help with some scheduling — ie. Easter Sunrise Service and Snoop Dogg at Red Rocks on the same day? — it works awfully well for The Denver Post’s annual Peeps diorama contest.

The Post’s annual contest is a favorite for crafty readers who like to mix pop culture and current events with oddly colorful marshmallow animals. And while the deadline has passed for this year’s contest, Post food editor Kristen Browning-Blas shared with The Cannabist one of her favorite weed-themed entries.

“One of my favorite of the stoner Peeps entries this year is called ‘Peep Scout Entrepreneurs,’ by Clare Lumley, 47, of Littleton,” Browning said. Lumley’s clever diorama — of Girl Scouts selling cookies outside a bustling Colfax Avenue dispensary — is above.

Winners will be announced April 16 in The Post’s Food section.

Last year’s second-place diorama was “Peeposition 64: Peeps Bakeoff,” by Liz Wohl of Denver, below.
