Humboldt County cannabis industry strained after PG&E outages

Production stopped. Employees were unable to work. Deliveries were unable to completed. Members of the cannabis industry said, just like all the other businesses in Humboldt County, that they were also negatively impacted by the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. power shutoffs last month.

The losses varied widely for each business, with some saying their employees were the most impacted while at least one dispensary said it lost $20,000 in revenue during just one of the shutoffs. Jeff Poel, owner and president of Eureka dispensary EcoCann, said $20,000 was the estimate for just that day, but the impact on sales has been long-lasting.

“The power outage interrupted the whole supply chain,” Poel said. “Those impacts are going to be going on for a long time.”
