World’s first museum exhibit on California marijuana: This has to be the first time Wayne, Garth, Cheech, Chong, Craig and Smokey have shared a museum wall. Yes, the Oakland Museum of California has gone to pot, devoting its entire Great Hall gallery to an exhaustive, high-profile exhibition titled, “Altered State: Marijuana in California,” which opened earlier this month. But far more than pot pop culture, the exhibit weeds through every imaginable aspect of the complex issue — from medical claims and the “War on Drugs” of the ’80s, to recreational use, conflicting laws, economics, environmental concerns, sacred uses of the plant and, yes, even stoner movies like “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” –Report by The San Jose Mercury News’ Angela Hill
Push for $4.20 donations on 4/20: While supporters of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders have lost track of how many times they’ve heard his oft-touted figure of $27 — the average donation to Sanders’ campaign — the marijuana-minded vote is looking to alter that average, if only for one day. With cannabis holiday 4/20 quickly approaching this week, some Sanders supporters have started an online campaign encouraging others to donate $4.20 (or $42 or $420) to Sanders’ war chest on April 20 to “send a message to the establishment that alone we’re harmless bees but together we’re a ferocious swarm that will not be silenced.” –Report by The Cannabist’s Ricardo Baca
