Amid EdiPure’s third pesticide recall, edibles biz calls city’s testing ‘dubious’

The full text of EdiPure’s statement dated Dec. 8, 2015:

Advisory of Additional Voluntary Recalls in Colorado Due To Lack of Recourse

Today, under duress and strong protest, EdiPure is voluntarily recalling a select number of our edibles products. EdiPure is calling on consumers and the overall the public to stand with us in demanding far greater transparency in testing and accountability in lab methodologies.

This week, additional EdiPure products tested positive for trace amounts of pesticide residue through a lab utilized by Denver County Department of Health inspectors. As has happened previously, officials claim this was from trim purchased months ago by EdiPure from various sources where pesticides may have been used in the grow process.

While EdiPure has always fought for stronger and more effective testing policies in Colorado, it is also our belief that the methods employed by this particular lab are dubious at best, relying more on voodoo math and junk science than certified and standard scientific testing methods.

As a company, EdiPure has recently taken the initiative to invest significant resources into state of the art in-house testing and lab equipment in order to assure the highest quality products and compliance. This equipment is fully calibrated to EPA standards and verified by certified professionals and industry experts here in Colorado. After EdiPure ran the same products that tested positive for pesticide residue leading to the most recent recall, the results came back negative – our product was clean and fully compliant.

Despite these findings, EdiPure has been left with absolutely no recourse to question what we believe to be false positives and poor testing. EdiPure has not been allowed knowledge of what other methods or calibrations have been used by this lab, or how the testing is being done.

As such, EdiPure is in the process of obtaining documentation from one of the nation’s top experts in the field, who is ISO certified and specialized in testing and pesticides, that will detail the unanswered questions and substantial concerns surrounding the current practices that seem to be sparking these recalls. EdiPure plans to make this information public and pursue positive reform with regulators and lawmakers that will be in the best interest of the safety of consumers enjoying our products.

Under the status quo, rouge and unaccountable processes are increasingly hurting Colorado’s legal, licensed cannabis industry and doing very little to actually promote public safety. It is incredibly disheartening to be placed in a situation where EdiPure has been found guilty and never given an opportunity to prove innocence.

EdiPure understands the unique challenges that arise from a new and rapidly growing industry. From day one, we have worked tirelessly alongside with regulators and policymakers to assure Colorado sets the standard for the rest of the nation to follow on how to roll out an entirely new industry like cannabis in a way that is effective and safe. We want nothing more than to continue to do just that.

As a leader in Colorado’s cannabis industry, EdiPure will keep pioneering new ways to assure honesty and full transparency for both the industry and regulators alike.
