Pueblo police: Teen shot after burglarizing illegal marijuana grow

A 17-year-old boy was shot early Friday in Pueblo after authorities say he burglarized a man’s illegal marijuana grow.

Police say the teen showed up at a hospital about 4:15 a.m. on Friday with a gunshot wound to his right leg.

“The juvenile male initially stated he was shot after leaving a party on the west side of Pueblo,” police said in a news release. “However, it was later determined that he and another individual had jumped a fence into a yard in the 1600 block of W. 13th Street in the hopes of finding marijuana plants in an outdoor grow.”

Investigators say Vincent Duran, 55, the homeowner, shot at the two alleged burglars, striking the teen.

“The juvenile was treated, released and taken to the Pueblo Youth Services Center where he was booked in on burglary charges,” police say.

Duran was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and police say he will also be issued summons for the marijuana grow. He will also be ordered to remove the grow, police say.

Investigators say they are searching for the teen’s accomplice.

In August 2014, a 13-year-old boy was wounded by a man after allegedly trying to steal marijuana plants from a backyard.
