Portland, Oregon will host its first Cannabis Cup pot trade show in 2015

It’s official: Portland will host Oregon’s first-ever Cannabis Cup in July 2015, according to trade show organizer High Times magazine.

The Oregon-rooted Cup will join similar events in Colorado, Washington state, Michigan, southern California, northern California and Amsterdam. And if you’re following closely, you’ll likely wonder when High Times will announce an event in Washington D.C. or perhaps Alaska?

The Cannabis Cup is a convention and trade show for the sativa set. Businesses come to show off their wares and offer the world-famous free samples, which are legitimately the biggest draw for the event. There are also lectures and panels and concerts, not to mention the plethora of ancillary events surrounding each Cup.

The largest Cannabis Cup takes over a convention space just outside of Denver each 4/20 weekend. In 2014 the event drew upwards of 37,000 over two days at the Denver Mart.

Amsterdam’s Cup, which runs through Nov. 27, has been in the news lately because of issues between High Times and Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan. Much of the Cup is moving forward in the Netherlands, but the ever-popular Expo — where those free samples clashed with the city’s laws — has been cancelled.

Location and dates for Oregon’s Cannabis Cup have not yet been selected.
