HALF MOON BAY, Calif. — Authorities seized more than a thousand pounds of marijuana Monday from an abandoned car and boat at Pescadero State Beach, officials said.
San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 8 a.m. to reports that a suspicious boat and white Chevy Blazer had been abandoned near the water’s edge, authorities said. Inside the Chevy were 42 bales of marijuana weighing between 25 and 30 pounds each. The bales appeared to have been moved from the boat to the truck.
The Department of Homeland Security was called to investigate the haul, along with state parks police and the sheriff’s narcotics task force, said Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Laurie Haley.
Officials would not say whether they have identified the owner of the Chevy or the Tanga, which is approximately 30 feet long with two engines and a large, sophisticated fuel tank. While both of the vehicles were found in the sand at the water’s edge, officials could not immediately confirm that was the reason they had been abandoned.
