California DA: Deputy shot man at illegal marijuana grow site in self-defense

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A report by the Butte County District Attorney’s Office says a sheriff’s deputy acted in self-defense when he fatally shot a Northern California illegal marijuana grower.

The Sacramento Bee reports 56-year-old Mark Aaron Jensen was shot and killed outside his Durham home Aug. 22.

According to the report released Monday, Jensen displayed aggressive behavior after he was issued a citation for violating county ordinances on marijuana growing operations.

Jensen’s wife told authorities that they had been growing marijuana for years for recreational purposes and as treatment for their daughter who has autism.

His wife says Jensen had anti-government views and had been in a “dark downward spiral” before his death.

According the report, Jensen had been armed with a Glock semi-automatic pistol, a .22 caliber pistol and a rifle.
