Group seeks to change anti-pot attitude of Western Colorado

Members of Grand Junction Cannabis Action Now think the city has waited long enough for recreational marijuana.

The grassroots group is working to put the issue on the city’s April 2017 ballot, the Grand Junction Sentinel reports.

Registered agent Tanette Mucino said group members are waiting for the city to approve their petition language and then will start collecting the required 2,254 signatures from Grand Junction residents to put the issue on the ballot, the Sentinel reports.

Mucino said she believes the tenor of the conversation surrounding recreational marijuana has changed in Grand Junction after residents have had several years to witness other municipalities and areas handle it.

Although Colorado voters approved recreational marijuana sales for adults over 21 in 2012, voters and local governments in Grand Junction and Mesa County have not approved selling marijuana or related business.
