Texas officials find nearly 5,000 pot plants in wooded area

TYLER, Texas — Officials say one person has been arrested in the investigation of an East Texas marijuana plot that’s yielded nearly 5,000 plants.

Law enforcement personnel worked Tuesday to remove or otherwise destroy the plants found in a wooded area between Tyler and Kilgore.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office says a tip led officers to the marijuana plot on Monday afternoon. Authorities say a 31-year-old man from Mexico who was captured near the site was detained on a federal immigration hold as part of the investigation.

Tyler is about 90 miles southeast of Dallas.
