Oakland laws to help Latino and black-owned pot businesses: To repair what they say was damage done to minorities targeted in the war on drugs, the Oakland City Council recently approved laws to make the city’s pot industry more inclusive of black and Latino residents. The consensus vote of the council came despite protests from people in the cannabis industry, including several African-American women, who said the policy was too narrow and should be expanded to other areas of Oakland or they would not be eligible. –Report by The Mercury News’ David Debolt
Oregon city councilor gets into the game: A member of the Medford City Council, known for its tough stance on legalized marijuana, has opened his own pot dispensary. The Mail-Tribune says Oregon city councilor Clay Bearnson is believed to be the first city councilor in Oregon to own a cannabis dispensary, though that could not immediately confirmed by the Oregon Health Authority. Bearnson and his partners opened Oregon Farmacy within Medford city limits two weeks ago. He also grows pot, some of which is dispensed at his new store. –Report by The Associated Press
