Marijuana shops in this Colorado city can now stay open until 10 p.m.

The Lafayette City Council extended hours of operation for the city’s marijuana shops during a meeting Tuesday.

The city’s code will be changed to allow Lafayette’s existing dispensary, Herbal Wellness, and second incoming dispensary to stay open until 10 p.m. — an additional three hours beyond the current 7 p.m. closure.

Eric Ryant, who owns Herbal Wellness and the incoming dispensary called Shaketown, told councilmembers in March that he plans to have armed security at the dispensaries during evening hours.

City regulations updated in April allow for a third retail dispensary in the city’s “green zone,” a commercial zone around the Lafayette Marketplace shopping center that meets state requirements including setbacks for schools.
