Listen: Ed Sheeran’s new weed anthem ‘Sweet Mary Jane’ brings fire

Pop singer Ed Sheeran is joining the likes of Rihanna and Snoop Dogg by releasing a weed anthem of his own in 2015.

Sheeran’s been playing the new song, “Sweet Mary Jane,” on his current tour — including a stop at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, where YouTube user ShaMya Williams captured him last week (in the above video).

And the song — which has Sheeran crooning, “I’m so damn high/Can you see my eyes?” — is it any good? It fits the singer-songwriter’s thoughtful, acoustic brand through and through, but it’s hardly adventurous or all that interesting.

In the scope of the new weed songs that have already been released this year, our critical ear places the track somewhere above Snoop’s crap effort “California Roll” but somewhere below Rihanna’s excellent “James Joint.”
