POLL: Should the NFL stop testing for pot? Sports guys debate the question

Given the Denver Broncos’ first round draft pick Shane Ray’s marijuana arrest a few days before the draft, Sports Show hosts Woody Paige and Les Shapiro were talking about pot’s place in the NFL on their May 4 show (above).

So the question is posed: Should the NFL stop testing for marijuana?

“There shouldn’t be any punishment for (getting high),” said sportswriter Paige, defending its medical uses.

But Shapiro disagreed.

“If I’m a non-pot smoker and I’m sitting in the meeting room at Broncos facility and a guy walks in and he reeks and he’s high and his arms are loaded with Doritos and Ding Dongs, that would bother me,” said Shapiro, who apparently thinks all pot users resemble a Cheech and Chong movie. “I don’t want that to be my teammate.”

Shapiro later added a more reasoned statement and hinted at how he might have voted for Colorado’s pot-legalizing Amendment 64.

“It’s a mind-altering drug,” Shapiro said. “I don’t want my teammate’s mind altered. I don’t want the NFL to make it legal. I didn’t want Colorado to make it legal.”
