Fort Collins police investigating if man ate pot edible before window leap

Police in Fort Collins say they are investigating if eating marijuana edibles contributed to a 19-year-old’s decision to jump out of a third-story window last week.

Officers were called to an apartment at 1050 Hobbit St. on April 14 on reports the man had just jumped from the building.

“Police located Austin Essig … on the ground near the apartment building with non-life threatening injuries,” police said in a news release Monday. “Police are investigating whether Essig ingested edible marijuana prior to jumping out the window.”

Police say their investigation is ongoing and declined to release further information.

Sgt. Dean Cunningham said an update on Essig’s condition was not immediately available on Monday.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Fort Collins police at (970) 416-2271.
