Colorado police: Two arrested in fatal shooting over marijuana plant dispute

Police in Durango have arrested two men in connection with a shooting early Monday at a motel that left one man dead and another wounded.

Investigators said Tuesday they believe the shooting was precipitated by a “property dispute over marijuana plants.”

Tyree Anthony Ogsbury-Jones and Aaron Christian Williams, both 22 years old from Durango, were arrested in the shooting, according to police.

Ogsbury-Jones is suspected of first-degree murder and is being held at the La Plata County jail without bond. Officials say he moved back and forth between Durango and Denver.

Williams is suspected of complicity to commit first-degree murder and is also being held without bond.

Officers were called out to the Iron Horse Inn on the 5800 block of North Main Street at about 3 a.m. Monday on reports of shooting, police said.

Witnesses told investigators two men in dark clothes with their faces covered were banging on one of the rooms at the motel and had rifles with them, officials said.

“The subjects entered the apartment and shot two males inside multiple times,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

Both of the victims, a 50-year-old man and a 53-year-old man, were taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds, according to the release.

The 50-year-old man, from Durango, succumbed to his wounds and “died on the operating table,” police said. Authorities declined to release his name pending notification of next of kin.

The other man was treated for gunshot wounds that authorities do not believe are life-threatening and was released from medical care Tuesday.

Officials say the suspects and victims were roommates at the motel up until two weeks before the shooting and they worked together at a gas station.

Police say they are still trying to uncover an “exact motive.”
