Gone Hemp: Your skin will drink up this Earthly Body oil spray (review)

California’s Earthly Body skin care and cosmetics company markets its Hemp Seed Moisturizing Oil Spray as a replacement for your daily lotion application.

This dewy moisturizer does boast such healthful characteristics as being free of paraben, petroleum, phthalate and gluten. (Makers also find it apropos to remind consumers that by definition, hemp products are THC-free.)

It’s a bit of a stretch, however, to say this oil spray is a replacement for a truly emollient, protective lotion.

With its spray-on pump and an array of 11 scents to choose from, Hemp Seed Moisturizing Oil Spray (formerly known as Glow Oil) is a great product to have on hand if you plan to hit the beach and get as dark as possible, or if you want to show off dewy, glistening skin for a dressy occasion or night on the town.

Since Earthly Body, which also makes Marrakesh hair-care products, candles, makeup and “adult products,” relies on the kind of all-natural ingredients that someone might use to whip up a batch of DIY moisturizer at home, hemp product fans can count on its Hemp Seed Moisturizing Oil Spray to provide a brief blast of relief without zapping skin of its natural moisture, which is what ultimately happens with petroleum products such as baby oil.

The problem with making a claim as bold as this company’s assertion that their body oil is better than lotion, is that skin oil alone cannot make up for Colorado’s moisture-depleting weather and altitude.

Estheticians generally say that anyone who lives at altitude and aspires to sport truly glowing skin year-round, would be best served by making a skin oil such as this one part of a daily self-care regimen that includes using a non-drying soap, regular lotion applications, taking vitamin B, eating a super food-rich diet, and getting plenty of sunshine.

But, when all your skin needs is a quick, glamorous glisten, Earthly Body’s Hemp Seed Moisturizing Oil Spray will do the trick.

Earthly Body Hemp Seed Moisturizing Oil Spray is available for about $16 at Earthbound Trading Company (Colorado Mills Mall, 14500 W. Colfax, Lakewood) and online at earthlybody.com.
