‘Broad City’ stars offer weed-happy love letter to Colorado (video)

We’ve known for a while that pot-loving comics Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, the New York-based duo behind Comedy Central’s breakout show “Broad City,” would be returning to Denver any day now.

Their March 24 sets at the Bluebird Theater were postponed, then rescheduled for Nov. 21, to accommodate production on the second season of their critically-acclaimed series.

But not until today did we know they loved us enough to record a video just for their Colorado fans. In it, they promise to hook us up, make us laugh and perform a romantic evening of comedy for all. (Tall orders, ladies, but we have a feeling you’ll come through.)

Women and pot: The female stoner is a rare commodity in TV’s pop culture, and arguably a precious one as well. How “Broad City” is changing the landscape.

And of course they slid some pot references in there, since Colorado was the first state to recreationally legalize the stuff, and (as far as we know) neither of them have visited since Jan. 1. No doubt there are also countless willing pot-concierges awaiting their arrival.

“Oh my god, weed’s legal in their state,” Ilana says to Abbi, before having a mock-convulsion of joy. Later she adds, “Mile High, you’re damn right. Mile high weed, mile high club.”

As you may recall, the “Broad City” series has been praised — including in the pages of this publication — for normalizing female stoners and showing a different (albeit comedically wacky) side of cannabis use over the usual dudes-playing-video-games-with-bongs. Although, it should be noted, Glazer is also an active gamer who formerly ran the “Chronic Gamer Girl” webs series (see our High Scores interview with her).
