Denver clothing company’s gift promo: Free weed with purchase

Now here’s a way to grow a local following with just three simple words: “complimentary cannabis gift.”

New Denver clothing company Hemp House has come up with an intriguing promotion, offering free eighths of weed to qualifying customers and spreading the word online. It’s a savvy marketing ploy for a company that won’t launch until December 2014. (On their website you have to enter your email address to learn more about how the promotion works.)

So, are you a qualifying customer? If you live in the Denver metro area, that’s a start.

On its face, the promo appears to adhere to Colorado’s laws about recreational marijuana: It’s OK to give up to an ounce of recreational weed to another person age 21 or over (sales can only happen through a state-licensed retailer).

The company says it will deliver the free eighth in person, along with the clothing order, and the recipient must present a valid I.D. to get the cannabis gift. “We do not mail our complimentary cannabis gifts,” the website says. It wasn’t disclosed what the minimum purchase amount will be to qualify for the free gift.

Hemp House’s products include socks, T-shirts, sweaters, hoodies, hats, backpacks and more. For online orders that aren’t in the delivery area and will be shipped, there’s a promise you’ll receive “something else special.”
