Weedmaps, Uber teaming up for multiple sclerosis fundraiser

Got a night of fun planned, and you want to arrange alternate transportation? Now you can feel even better about that decision.

Online marijuana heavyweight Weedmaps is teaming up with on-demand ride service Uber and weed retailer The Clinic for a fundraiser to support multiple sclerosis research. Uber will donate $5 for every first-time rider who uses the promotional code “clinicms” through the end of the year.

“As a company that believes strongly in marijuana as medicine, we think it’s a natural fit to help support medical research, especially for MS, for which marijuana has been known to alleviate symptoms,” Justin Hartfield, CEO and founder of Weedmaps, said in a media release.

This ride promotion is happening in conjunction with the fifth annual golf Charity Classic, whose proceeds also benefit MS research. The sold-out dank duffers event, which is Saturday, Aug. 16 at Denver’s City Park Golf Course, is hosted by The Clinic, which has six marijuana centers in the Denver area.

All proceeds from the golf outing and the ride campaign will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. According to the release, Weedmaps and The Clinic have raised more than $125,000 for MS research through the annual golf event.
