Boulder County rec sales start next week in Nederland

The Canary’s Song, the Nederland medical marijuana dispensary that last month received its local business license, is expected to become Boulder County’s first recreational pot outlet some time next week.

The Nederland Board of Trustees on Jan. 21 unanimously approved The Canary’s Song’s license to operate as a retail marijuana shop. Just before Christmas, the shop became the first in Boulder County to receive its state retail marijuana license.

The business, located at 1 W. First St. in Nederland, has been operating as a medical marijuana dispensary since March, and on Jan. 26 closed to complete its transition from dispensary to a combined medical-retail location, according to a posting on its Facebook page.

The business’ owners earlier Wednesday picked up their recreational business license from Nederland’s town hall, according to the town clerk.

At about 5 p.m. Wednesday, the store’s operators again took to Facebook to announce that the shop will reopen this weekend for medical sales only. The post said recreational sales “will start some time next week,” but an exact date has yet to be selected.

The shop is expected to announce an opening date on its Facebook page.
