An example of Blueberry from a different Colorado dispensary (Ry Prichard, The Cannabist)

Blueberry (marijuana review, Strain Theory)

Strain Theory: Blueberry

By the numbers: $10/gram, $200-$280/ounce (depending on daily specials) at Pure Dispensary, 505 W. 40th Ave. in Denver.

I was feeling youthful and maybe a little reckless. I had a full gram of Blueberry, and I was going to smoke it all at once. It had been years since I had broken open a cigarillo wrap and rolled a blunt, but I was really looking forward to it. I dumped the guts and got to work.

I had trouble convincing myself that a ‘rillo was the way to go, but I’d finally caved. Rolling it wasn’t a problem; I actually really enjoy that part of the process. I’ve often wondered if I could win a blunt-rolling contest.

Two shakes later and I’ve got almost all of this gram of Blueberry, an indica-dominant hybrid, successfully rolled up in a blueberry cigarillo. The blueberry qualities of the weed are intensified by the flavored paper. Only part way through the blunt and I decided that was enough for the night. I put that sucker out and saved it for another time. At this point a sort of weightless sensation had set in and I recognized that I was feeling supremely tranquil. This is a pretty great effect for medical patients with severe pain.

My husband had been begging to re-watch “Rolling Kansas” for years. Now seemed like the right time. But 10 minutes into it, we decided we didn’t really want to watch it anymore.

Goodbye, “Rolling Kansas” and goodnight, Brittany. It had been only one hour since I started smoking but after my bedtime and I was now pretty tired. Insomnia would not be a problem tonight. Lying in bed I considered that while a blunt may be a novel idea, it wasn’t the way I wanted to experience all that Blueberry had to offer.

I was glad I still had a chillum‘s worth to try again in the morning. I drifted off into a deep and restful sleep.

The next morning, I got up and started coffee. I have stomach issues and no natural appetite, so I use marijuana to help relieve those concerns. An indica-dominant strain is usually better suited for nighttime, but in small doses can be invigorating also. I drank coffee and took a few small tokes. It tasted better than it had the previous night, now that it wasn’t shrouded by the cigarillo wrap. I prefer some radio in the morning, so I started listening to some tunes while my husband retrieved our son and I made breakfast.

I felt happy and carefree. My son loves dancing, and so we danced. I shuffled, I did the shake and I may have even done the twist. I was living in a warm summer day at the beach while actually in the midst of a winter polar vortex. It felt like the day could go on forever in this blissful, satisfying way.

The effects didn’t last more than an hour. This left me ready to tackle my day. This morning the Blueberry really energized me. The undeniable optimism of the high remained with me throughout the day and it seemed to filter into everything I encountered. My son seemed to sense my anxiety had been lifted and followed suit by behaving better than he had all week. It was a pleasant surprise and no doubt should be chalked up to Blueberry helping me get a good night’s sleep and brightening my morning.
